The Educational Experience

Youth is a time for exposure to opportunities and experiences that shape and form each the individual. Athletics are an important of a student’s total experience at Academy at the Lakes. Competition and interscholastic sports offers lessons that cannot be learned inside a classroom. Academy at the Lakes is a member of a member of two interscholastic leagues – The Florida West Coast League (Middle Division athletics) and the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA). Please click on the Athletics button for information about seasons and teams.

Academy at the Lakes was founded as a school with a wide exposure to the fine arts. As a matter of fact, the educational experience is built around fine arts programming on three levels – dramatic, musical, and visual. Academy at the Lakes students have opportunities to participate in studio art where creations in one, two, and three dimensions are designed to help students shape and cultivate their visual/esthetic intelligence. Meanwhile students find an entire range of offerings such as drama, theater, theater arts, dance, band, strings, a cappella chiors (male and female), and choral groups. Annually students have opportunities to perform in exciting large and small scale theater productions, community engagements, art shows, and concerts. Whether taking the lead or supporting role in shows such as Bye, Bye, Birdie, The Music Man, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, or as a member of the pit orchestra, engaging experiences compel students to step outside of themselves and try-on new opportunities. The result is amazing, exciting, engaged growth that is so very important to the future.

Clubs also provide opportunities for students to explore other areas of learning and they provide still another way to for each individual student to learn about themselves. Typical clubs are Chess Club, Debate, Forensics, National Honor Society, Student Council, Yearbook, and Film Making.
