The School
Academy at the Lakes, founded in 1992, is a coeducational non-denominational college preparatory independent day school with 400 students in Junior Kindergarten through Grade 12. An Upper Division was added in 1998 with the first class of four seniors graduating in 2002. Since the graduation of the classes of 2002 - 2007, the school now has sixty-five alumni. Academy at the Lakes is fully accredited by the Florida Council of Independent Schools (FCIS), the Florida Kindergarten Council (FKC), and the Southern Association of College Schools (SACS). Academy is also a member of the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS), the Secondary School Admission Test Board (SSATB), and the College Entrance Examination Board (CEEB).
The Students The Academy's student body is racially and ethnically diverse. Approximately 28% of our student body are students of color. Eight percent of the Upper Division student body is African American and 5% is Latino/Hispanic. Academy at the Lakes does not provide a class rank for students.
The Faculty
The Academy's faculty includes sixty-one full-time and six part-time teachers. More than half of our faculty hold advanced degrees, and six hold doctorate degrees.
Curriculum and Graduation Requirements
To receive a diploma, Academy students must earn 24 credits, including four in English, three in Mathematics, three in Science, three in History, three in Foreign Language, one in the Arts, one in Physical Education, and six in elective areas, which most often include History, Mathematics, Science, and the Arts. The Academy offers Advanced Placement courses in all core subject areas.
