Enriching Afternoons

Session 2

Jan. 28 – April 3, 2008

Below is a description of the after school enrichment programs we provide for students AND PARENTS.  We hope you and your child (ren) will sign up for at least one!  Please complete the appropriate section on the last page and return it with your check payable to Academy at the Lakes by Wednesday, January 23, 2008.

No classes 2/1, 2/18, 2/29, 3/7, 3/14, 3/21-3/28.

 Mondays

(Session ends 4/7)

Guitar Essentials (1st – 4th Grade)

3:20 – 4:00 / $140.00

Students can have fun learning new chords, songs, and strumming techniques with

Ms. CarolAnn D’Annunizo.

Cooking Kids (JK - 4th Grade)

 3:20-4:20 / $200

Academy teachers, Mrs. Uthe and Mrs. Gregory, will help your child personalize their own aprons, mixing bowls, and utensils.  They will learn to create easy and delicious snacks and treats that they will enjoy sharing with you at home.  We welcome children of different cooking abilities. 

Science Detectives (1st – 4th Grade)

3:20-4:20 / $170

Come be a science detective. Join Academy teacher, Ms. Kern, and explore the wonders of science in the afternoons. Children will look at ooey, gooey science, explosive science, natural science, kitchen chemistry and much more. This hands-on program will stimulate your child’s curiousity, creativity, and learning through fun and exciting experiments and activities.

Tuesdays

(Session ends 4/1)

Scrapbooking (1st- 4th Grade)

3:20-4:00 / $150.00

Scrapbooking is a creative and fun way to preserve memories. Each week will have new ideas, supplies, and tools to use.  You will create a one of a kind keepsake for many years to come.  Come join the fun with Academy teacher, Ms. Patti!

 
Fun Fitness (JK - 4th Grade)

3:20-4:00 / $150.00

Come and join academy teachers, Ms. V and Ms. Jones, for fun activities that will improve speed, fitness, and agility!  Some of our fun challenges will include obstacle courses, agility ladders, relay games, and much more!  Regardless of age or fitness level, we welcome all students. whether your goal is to improve your sports performance, fitness level, or just have fun!


Wednesdays

(Session ends 4/2)

Karate (JK – 1st Grade)       

3:20 – 4:10 / $170.00

Academy parent, Kirk Downing, will help students increase their attention span, build self – confidence, and increase motor skills in a fun environment while learning karate and self - defense. Uniforms are included. If you are a previous student and have a uniform, cost will be $150.00.

 
An Author's Workshop
(3rd - 4th Grade)

3:20 – 4:20 / $200.00 

Children love sharing their stories!  Students will be assisted in oral storytelling, writing, and publishing their story. Through this process, all children will reinforce what is taught in the classroom: Art, Creative Writing, Critical Thinking, Mapping, Design, and Illustrating.  Students will publish a 3X5 personal, hardbound book. Be ready for An Author's Fair to celebrate their success once the books return from publishing! 


The French Experience (SK – 4th Grade)

3:20 - 4:00 / $160.00

Bonjour! Parlez francais! Come join Ms. CarolAnn on an imaginary "voyage" to France at each class session, where students will learn to speak French, view the sights of Paris, sample some French goodies, and learn to sing and dance to some favorite French songs. 

 
Thursdays

(Session ends 4/3)

Abrakadoodle Art Class (JK – 1ST Grade)

3:20 – 4:20 / $165.00

Mini Doodlers will create their own masterpiece using their imagination. Foster creativity and develop new skills. Each lesson provides new experiences with paint, water-colors, pastels, and other creative tools and materials.
