A Message from Parent Association President Sherry Deardoff
 
 
The Academy at the Lakes Parent Association is a vibrant, vital group of involved and interested parent volunteers who delight in providing support for the school in the form of organizing special events, assisting with classroom activities and maintaining a steady stream of communications with families. All parents of current students are members of the Parent Association and are warmly welcomed to participate in any of the many exciting projects in which the P.A. is involved throughout the school year.
 
The Parent Association is involved in many wonderful events, including the Fall Festival, the Book Fair, Sally Foster sales in the fall and the collection of Box Tops for Education. One of its most important initiatives is to welcome new families to the school and to provide an ongoing program to acknowledge and appreciate the exceptional faculty at Academy at the Lakes.
 
One of the most enjoyable aspects of the Parent Association is the opportunity to create events to underscore parent appreciation for the faculty and staff. The Parent Association Calendar highlights these events and parent involvement is always needed to ensure their success.

Parent Association Executive Team Meeting Minutes, Friday, May 2nd 2008:

 Academy at the Lakes Parents’ Association has some very exciting change ups in place for the coming academic year.

 PA Executive Committee for 2008-2009  

 The Parent Association is proud to announce the following officers for next year. The Executive Committee members in place so far are:

Upper Division VP – Marnie Bennett

Middle Division VPs – Bobbie Fontenot and Sherry Deardoff

Thanks to all of you for committing to help make 08-09 a great year!

    There are still some positions available for next year.  Have you thought about volunteering? We are all here for our children, and it’s a lot of fun.  So please, get involved if you can.  It is only a couple of hours a month, and the rewards are wonderful!

 The following positions are still available:

Recycling

    A Recycling program for the Academy will be in place.  In addition to this, every effort is being made to reduce the amount of paper used for items such as the agendas.

Fall Fundraising Campaign

    Sally Foster will now only be done online. This will not only be simpler, but there not be any paper forms to process! We will tell you more about this in the near future, and more items than Sally Foster may be available for sale/purchase.

Fall Festival

     Plans are already being made to organize our festival for next year.  We look forward to incorporating our new gymnasium, and include some old fashion community involved booths, activities and maybe some rides. 

School Directories

    The school directories are compiled over the summer.  Please help us make sure your information is correct before summer break.  Efforts are currently being made to get our PA executive team in place in time for printing.

End-of-School Year

     Finally, there are some end-of-school year items that will be purchased with PA funds (such as graduation commencement items). Once the final balance is calculated, there will be a vote to decide what the school needs purchased and the money will be applied towards it.

 Heartfelt Gratitude

    A Special Thanks goes to all who served on the committee this school year.  Your involvement was invaluable!  Cynthia Martin and Sherry Deardoff also personally thanked each and every member of the PA executive team.  Additionally, they thanked all of those parents that  stepped up and volunteered in whatever ways they could this year. 

    The children of the committee members were brought over and asked if "they knew what their parent did this year".  The predominant answers were "no, not really" except for a few extremely wise …dare I say, gifted ones... who were smart enough to answer "everything"!

    Thanks again to everyone for making this year such a success. It is the involvement of our wonderful families that makes the Academy at the Lakes such an exceptional school for all of our children. Have a great summer!
