             Support the Academy

Message from the Director of Advancement

Joanne B. Rock

The concept of advancement is firmly in place the independent school world. It is exemplified in the exciting way school constituencies are embracing their role as fund and friend raisers. At Academy at the Lakes the Advancement Office is squarely facing outward –looking beyond the schoolhouse walls for the support needed to take advantage of the many opportunities available for Academy students.

As many families know, tuition dollars do not cover the full cost of the enrichment programs and special activities that are the hallmarks of an Academy at the Lakes education. Although tuition does cover the just over 80% of the expenses needed to make Academy at the Lakes the distinctive and unique place it has become, there is still a compelling need for additional funding to ensure the school will continue to be a place of exciting educational experiences, challenging athletic opportunities and creative fine arts activities. All of this is possible, but not without the help and generous support of Academy families, alumni, faculty and staff members and friends.

This is a very significant time at Academy at the Lakes. A plan is now in place that has identified and prioritized those issues that are of the greatest importance to the school community. It will come as no surprise to anyone that if we are to reach the lofty goals that have been set for us we will need the funds to make the dreams become realities.

The Annual Fund for Excellence is just such an initiative. On an annual basis it offers families, friends, grandparents, faculty and staff members and alumni the chance to make a contribution to support this critical fundraising effort. Led by a dedicated group of volunteers the Annual Fund will raise contributions to support enrichment and enhancement projects that would simply be beyond the scope of the operating budget. Teachers and administrators will identify their desires for these funds and with the careful analysis of the Head of School expenditures will be approved, based upon the availability of dollars. You can become part of this positive effort by making a generous gift to the Annual Fund for Excellence. Don’t give until it hurts – give until it feels good!

In order for the Academy to grow it will soon become necessary to evaluate the possibility of launching a capital campaign, as well as give serious consideration to the future location of our growing school. Your involvement, as a donor, a volunteer or as a leader in the future growth of Academy at the Lakes is wanted, but more importantly it is needed.
